The ultimate, overarching problem is the World Problematique.
Its clearest definition is perhaps that set of mutually interacting wicked problems which exhibit the property of protecting one-another from solution.
What is so pesky about "The World Problematique" is that it seems depressingly impossible to address, unless... we get wiser and better able to work things out together. Which takes us back to making humanity wiser.
