Nooron is the current name for a project which was initially called The Idea Engine. It's purpose is to act as a thinking support tool for individuals, groups and populations. It accomplishes this by providing direct support for the actual workflows of human reasoning and decision-making. There have been many prototypes and plugins for Nooron through the years and creating and using each one of them informed the next version. Here are a few of them:

• LibNoo – a dynamic, tiling, multi-tenant, collective-thinking workbench with interfaces for mapping, graph-visualization, charting, tabular and hyper-video workflows
• NooronNoobj – a self-hosted, self-visualizing, dynamically extensible, realtime collaborative knowledge engine
• PyNooron – a knowledge publishing and visualization server with semantic apps for pattern-languages and project-management
• HuViz – a scriptable semantic visualization plug-in

The small Canadian company Nooron Collaboratory was founded to host this project's development. Efforts are underway to bring up a more transparently public interest institution at NoosphereDotOrg to host this ongoing work and the broader mission of advancing collective human cognition.
